I just found out this week that P90X3 was released last December. I must have been skimming over Beachbody emails or avoiding TV when infomercials are on because this was news to me. There seemed to be much more fanfare when P90X2 was released. I’d been looking for motivation to workout again and P90X3 came at the right time with the right tagline. 30 minutes a day! I can do that (I hope)! After going through P90X several years ago, the main issue I had with the program was time. 60 to 90 minutes a day was pushing it for me. And now with a baby, P90X3 seems like it is right up my alley.
Amazon’s free Prime shipping stated it would arrive in 2-3 business days but their fabled drone delivery system must have been in the area and dropped off the package the very next day. FYI, actual octocopters from Amazon will not be operational until at least 2015, so I was just lucky to get it earlier than expected. Inside the standard Amazon box was…. a standard Beachbody/P90X box with a “3” tacked on. Exciting stuff.
But it’s whats on the inside that counts. There’s a DVD booklet just like in P90X. It contains a “How to Accelerate” overview DVD that Mr. Tony Horton advises you to watch first. The rest of the booklet is filled with 8 DVDs, each with 2 workouts for a total of 16 to get you through the program. Of course, no Beachbody workout set is complete without a Nutritional Guide. X3’s guide is combined with a workout manual that details the science behind the system and each individual exercise. Other miscellaneous items include promo sheets for Shakeology and the P90X app for your smartphone.
I bought the base model but for those of you interested, here’s what else you get in the deluxe and ultimate kits.
- Deluxe ($274): 3 additional workouts (complex upper, complex lower, X3 ab ripper), 3 resistance bands, and Beachbody’s E&E Energy and Endurance pre-workout supplement.
- Ultimate ($369): everything in deluxe plus Beachbody jump mat, Results and Recovery formula, P90X chin-up bar, and P90X chin-up max.
